Yuletide: Holiday Time at Bayou Bend

Annual holiday tradition features festive lights, decorations and special room settings. In 2013, the exhibition features a room dedicated to early American children’s toys and vignettes of opulence that celebrate the 1830s, a time when the United States was beginning its climb to wealth and power. Exhibit is open Nov. 26-Jan. 1. All ages are welcome. Holiday Evening Open House takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 29. Guests are invited to stroll through the exhibition on the first floor of the house to learn more about the holidays and America’s early days. Tour guides are located throughout the rooms. Light refreshments are provided. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for ages 10 to 18. Children 9 and younger are admitted free. No reservations are required.

Music tells the beloved 1957 Dr. Seuss tale of the grouchy creature with a heart “two sizes too small,” his loyal dog Max, and their encounters with the merry Whos. A guest vocalist from the Houston Grand Opera Studio will join The Woodlands High School Chorus chorus and the musicians of the Houston Symphony. Tickets are $28. Handel's "Messiah" will be presented Dec. 20-22. Performing with the symphony will be a chorus, star soloists and Baroque conductor Nicholas McGegan. Show times are 8 p.m. Dec. 20-21 and 2:30 p.m. Dec. 22. Tickets cost $29-$117.
